Gifted Teacher

 

Qualifications:

Hold a valid Mississippi Class A certificate or higher appropriate to the teaching position for which consideration is given for employment.

 

Job Goal: 

Provide identified gifted and talented students with appropriate learning experiences that develop potential and lead to advanced academic achievement. Provide services for gifted and talented students in Second grade through 8th grade, working in collaboration with administrators and teachers to provide supplemental support for increasing advanced student achievement for all students, specifically gifted and talented students through staff development, instructional planning, and classroom support for teachers through both a pull-out.

 

Responsibilities: 

 

     1. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the gifted and talented standard and curriculum  

  1. Teach/demonstrate the integration of TARGET within the overall instructional program of gifted 
  1. Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of gifted students based on the district's goals and  vision
  1. Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of  documentation
  1. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media that meet the needs and capabilities of gifted  
  1. Conduct student assessments and adapt curriculum and lesson plans accordingly, providing differentiation and/or extensions  
  1. Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to address gifted student's needs
  1. Organize an active parent-advocate organization
  1. Coordinate and facilitate gifted student fall and spring parent meetings 
  1. Build professional relationships with stakeholders, colleagues, community, and parents 
  1. Develop and revise the gifted program of work
  1. Assist teachers in developing and providing gifted students with enriched or alternative course work through curriculum modification, compacting.  
  1. Travel as required to fulfill responsibilities
  1. Participate in campus professional learning communities.   
  1. Assist in the gifted and talented nomination and identification process, including the planning, testing of students, review of student data, and campus identification 

Additional Duties:

 

  1. Ensuring that each student in the program has necessary evaluation and consultation records in his/ her permanent folder. 
  2. Completing progress reports on each student 
  3. Completing reports for appropriate local and state educational agencies.
  4. Referring those students who require further evaluation or follow-up services to the appropriate school personnel or community
  5. Documenting ongoing consultation with basic education teachers and maintaining a record of modified instructional strategies and results for each student where appropriate.
  6. Attending and participating in faculty meetings or other meetings as required.

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Principal in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
